Distinguished members and colleagues,
I am very pleased and honoured to communicate with each and every one of you all as the new chief steward of the Endoscopic and Laparoscopic Surgeons of Asia (ELSA).
Since I have been nominated by your unanimous decision as the president of this prestigious organization in Daegu, Korea recently, I would like to reiterate sincere gratitude from the bottom of my heart to all honourable members. And my special thanks go to my esteemed predecessors, the executive committee, and the Board of Governors for their dedications and outstanding leadership that have graced us all along.
In retrospect, ELSA has served as a wonderful bedrock for unprecedented development and maturation of minimally invasive techniques in the last 20 years. Minimally invasive surgery, first introduced in the late 1980's, was a huge revolution in surgical history and has made a big difference for millions of patients globally. Furthermore it still continues its powerful renovation both in scope and volume.
No doubt, state of art technologies hammered out painfully by great scientists have reduced the burden of surgeons immensely, offering more and more meaningful options for patients and clinicians all alike.
Mould-breaking outputs in both basic and clinical researches opened new avenues for cure together with impressive byproducts in opening cost-effective care routes. The ELSA shall serve as the most reliable platform interfacing clinicians and patients with up-to-date medical technologies. To this end, I would like to assure you all that I will do my best not to let anybody in our community to be drowned in the daily swirl of information and messages.
Please be assured that your newly elected executive committee, with Prof. Zhong-Tao Zhang as vice president, Prof. Davide Lomanto as secretary general and Prof. Rolf Ulrich Hartung as treasurer and me, are committed to preserving and building-up ELSA's great tradition as Asian leader in the field of endo-laparoscopic surgery. And I will leave no stone unturned in our joint search for clinical excellence in our profession.
I would like to activate outreach program, membership committee in quest for new valued members, and both intra and inter-regional collaboration vis-a-vis SAGES and EAES among others.
Your active participation remains the most powerful source of energy in creating a bright future for ELSA. Finally I would like to express my sincere appreciation once again for your whole-hearted support for ELSA.
We share the same vision and mission. “Coming together is a beginning, keeping together is progress, and working together is success.”
I humbly look forward to your comments and advice of any sort which will serve the fundamental interests of honourable members and our association as a whole.
With best regards,
